RunCat vs Tegaro
Tegaro is better if you want a Critter alongside practical readouts and utilities. RunCat is stronger as a minimal CPU activity companion.
RunCat is a running pet in your menu bar that reacts to how busy your Mac is. Tegaro has animated critters too, and the same icon opens eight more tools.

Tegaro and RunCat both put an animated critter in the macOS menu bar that runs faster when your Mac works harder. RunCat is built around that one idea, with a choice of runners and extra packs you can buy. Tegaro includes critters too, but treats them as one of ten tools in a single menu-bar icon: Dictation, Screenshots, Clipboard, Layout, Displays, Power, Critter, AI usage limits and Disk.

Privacy and footprint
Tegaro runs its core typing, clipboard and downloaded-model dictation workflows locally. AI usage may query Claude or Codex providers using existing authentication; licensing checks, downloads, updates and opted-in email have separate network behaviour. Review each product’s privacy documentation for the feature you use.
Native macOS app built with Swift.
Core typing, copied-content and downloaded-model dictation workflows stay local. Licensing, optional renewal lookups, model downloads, opted-in diagnostics and direct AI-provider checks are separate network actions. AI Usage uses existing provider sign-in and does not send provider credentials to Tegaro.
How to Switch from RunCat to Tegaro
- Open the Critter tool in Tegaro and pick a critter.

- Click the critter any time to open the other tools.
- Quit RunCat and remove it from Login Items so you have one critter, not two.
Frequently asked questions
Does an animated critter use a lot of battery on a MacBook?
We do not quote a battery figure for either app. If battery life matters to you, try the critter during the 14-day trial and watch Battery in System Settings.
Which critters does Tegaro have?
Tegaro has several animated critters. Some are free; extra critters need Pro. The Critter page lists the current set.
Can the critter replace other menu bar utilities?
In part. The same icon opens Tegaro's other tools: Clipboard, Screenshots, Displays, Power, Dictation, Layout, AI usage limits and Disk. If you use small apps for those jobs, you can quit them. A separate system monitor you rely on for detailed numbers may still be worth keeping.
