Ice & Hidden Bar vs Tegaro
Tegaro is better if you want useful tools rather than only icon management. Ice is stronger for hiding menu-bar icons.
Ice and Hidden Bar tuck menu bar icons out of sight. Tegaro takes another route: ten tools behind one icon, so there are fewer icons to tuck away.

Ice and Hidden Bar are free, open-source apps that hide menu bar icons behind an arrow or a collapsible section, which helps when a MacBook's camera notch crowds the bar. Tegaro does not hide other apps' icons. It puts ten tools (Dictation, Screenshots, Clipboard, Layout, Displays, Power, Critter, AI usage limits and Disk) behind one menu-bar icon, so you can quit some small apps and have less to hide.

Privacy and footprint
Tegaro runs its core typing, clipboard and downloaded-model dictation workflows locally. AI usage may query Claude or Codex providers using existing authentication; licensing checks, downloads, updates and opted-in email have separate network behaviour. Review each product’s privacy documentation for the feature you use.
Native macOS app built with Swift.
Core typing, copied-content and downloaded-model dictation workflows stay local. Licensing, optional renewal lookups, model downloads, opted-in diagnostics and direct AI-provider checks are separate network actions. AI Usage uses existing provider sign-in and does not send provider credentials to Tegaro.
How to Switch from Ice & Hidden Bar to Tegaro
- Note which menu bar apps you were hiding, such as a clipboard manager, a brightness tool or a battery monitor.

- Quit the apps Tegaro replaces and remove them from Login Items.

Frequently asked questions
Why choose Tegaro over a menu bar hider like Ice?
A hider conceals icons but leaves the apps running. Tegaro replaces several of those apps, so there are fewer icons to begin with. It does not hide other apps' icons, so if you keep many, a hider still helps.
Does Tegaro need Accessibility permission to manage the menu bar?
Tegaro does not manage other apps' icons. Its individual tools ask for the macOS permissions they need when you turn them on, for example Screen Recording for screenshots.
Can Tegaro work alongside Ice or Bartender?
Yes. Tegaro adds one icon of its own. If you have other menu bar apps you want hidden, you can keep using a hider next to it.
