Alfred vs Tegaro

Tegaro is better if EN/RU layout correction is the task. Alfred is stronger for launcher and automation workflows.

Alfred is a well-known keyboard launcher. Tegaro is a set of ten everyday tools in the menu bar. Here is how their jobs and features compare.

Tegaro and Alfred do different jobs, and many people can use both. Alfred is a keyboard launcher: you press a hotkey, type, and open apps and files or run workflows you set up. Tegaro lives in the menu bar and combines ten tools in one icon, including wrong-layout typing fix, clipboard history that can search inside screenshots, display tools (brightness for external monitors, resolution, a Dock copy on every screen), battery and power readouts, and offline voice dictation.

Undo and app exceptions

The module supports correction reversal and app-level exceptions.

Privacy and footprint

Tegaro runs its core typing, clipboard and downloaded-model dictation workflows locally. AI usage may query Claude or Codex providers using existing authentication; licensing checks, downloads, updates and opted-in email have separate network behaviour. Review each product’s privacy documentation for the feature you use.

Privacy

Native macOS app built with Swift.

Core typing, copied-content and downloaded-model dictation workflows stay local. Licensing, optional renewal lookups, model downloads, opted-in diagnostics and direct AI-provider checks are separate network actions. AI Usage uses existing provider sign-in and does not send provider credentials to Tegaro.

One isolated Shift tap switches EN/RU; double Shift attempts a safe last-word repair and triple Shift undoes or blocks a pair. Each gesture can be disabled; without a safe candidate, double Shift only switches layout.

How to Switch from Alfred to Tegaro

  1. Keep Alfred for opening apps and files and for your own workflows.
  2. Turn on Tegaro's Displays and Power tools for monitor brightness, resolution, a Dock copy and battery information.
  3. Use Tegaro for wrong-layout typing fixes and for dictation.
  4. Replace separate clipboard and screenshot apps with Tegaro's Clipboard and Screenshots.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Alfred and Tegaro together?

Yes. They do different jobs. Alfred is where you search and launch things. Tegaro is where you get clipboard history, screenshots, dictation, typing fixes, display and power tools.

Does Alfred control external monitor brightness?

Not as a built-in feature, as far as we know. Tegaro has brightness control for external monitors in its Displays tool.

How does clipboard history compare between Alfred and Tegaro?

Alfred's Powerpack includes clipboard history for text and images. Tegaro's Clipboard also keeps text and images, and lets you search for text inside screenshots. It is off by default and needs Pro after the 14-day trial.
