Bartender vs Tegaro
Tegaro is better if you want its tools in one menu-bar app. Bartender is stronger for arranging and hiding menu-bar icons.
Bartender hides the icons you already have. Tegaro gives you ten tools behind one icon, so you need fewer separate apps in the menu bar in the first place.

Tegaro and Bartender both help with a crowded Mac menu bar, which matters most on MacBooks where the camera notch can cover icons. Bartender hides, groups and reveals the icons of other apps. Tegaro does not hide other apps' icons. It combines ten tools (Dictation, Screenshots, Clipboard, Layout, Displays, Power, Critter, AI usage limits and Disk) into one menu-bar icon, so you can quit several small utilities and have less to hide.

Privacy and footprint
Tegaro runs its core typing, clipboard and downloaded-model dictation workflows locally. AI usage may query Claude or Codex providers using existing authentication; licensing checks, downloads, updates and opted-in email have separate network behaviour. Review each product’s privacy documentation for the feature you use.
Native macOS app built with Swift.
Core typing, copied-content and downloaded-model dictation workflows stay local. Licensing, optional renewal lookups, model downloads, opted-in diagnostics and direct AI-provider checks are separate network actions. AI Usage uses existing provider sign-in and does not send provider credentials to Tegaro.
How to Switch from Bartender to Tegaro
- List the small menu bar apps you use for things like clipboard, brightness, battery, screenshots and typing fixes.
- Turn on the matching tools in Tegaro.
- Quit the apps Tegaro now replaces and remove them from Login Items.
- Keep Bartender if you still run other menu bar apps that Tegaro does not replace.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use Tegaro instead of a menu bar manager like Bartender or Ice?
Only in part. Tegaro does not hide other apps' icons. If your menu bar is crowded because of several small utilities that Tegaro replaces, quitting them can leave enough room that you no longer need a manager. If you keep many other menu bar apps, a manager still helps.
Does Tegaro need Accessibility or Screen Recording permission to manage menu bar icons?
Individual tools ask for the macOS permissions they need when you turn them on, for example Screen Recording for screenshots. Tegaro does not manage other apps' icons, so it has no reason to read them.
Why do MacBook notches cause menu bar problems?
On MacBooks with a camera notch, the menu bar has less room on the right. When too many apps run, macOS can hide the icons that do not fit. Fewer icons means fewer get hidden.
